Subaru Impreza MY06 MAX668RVD and NAX963HD Fitting Instructions
The system consists of the head unit, MAX668RVD, a hideaway navigation unit, NAX963HD, which should be located under the passenger’s seat and a TMC aerial, which is fixed to the inside of the rear screen. The microphone for voice recognition should be placed within close proximity of the driver, we suggest the top of the A pillar. The Navigation (GPS) aerial is positioned on top of the dash on the passenger’s side.
All the main wiring is pre-assembled for quick plug in fitment. The navigation unit requires a speed pulse, reverse signal and parking brake, these are again plug in. All cables can be laid under the carpet and all areas are quite easily accessible. The TMC aerial cable is fed down the CB pillar and under the carpet to locate under the passengers seat.
1. Begin by removing the original head unit. The gearlever trim is clipped into place, Lift the rear of the trim first, then the front. Disconnect the cigarette lighter connector and unscrew gear knob to remove the panel completely.
2. The upper centre console surrounding the radio is held in place by two screws at the bottom and also clips towards the top. When removed unclip the heater control plugs to allow the console to be completely removed
3. Remove the six screws (3 each side) that retain the radio brackets to the fascia and withdraw the audio unit from the console. Remove the antenna plug, the main wiring plug and the earth strap clipped to the RH radio bracket. Remove the 4 screws that retain the side brackets to the radio and retain them as they are re-used to fit the new head unit.
4. Remove hand brake cover by removing the 4 screws at the rear of the console and 2 screws at the front. This will allow you to lift the console and feed the wiring through from the head unit to the navigation unit.
5. The main wiring to the navigation unit is passed through the lower section of the dashboard, along the side of the handbrake console and under the carpet to the passenger’s foot well.
This wiring consists
• Navigation unit main wiring loom.
• CE NET cable (thick cable with black 13 pin connectors at each end.)
• Microphone cable
• Thick black cable with 8 pin round connector at each end.
• GPS antenna cable (this cable should be routed behind the front edge of the windscreen and into the passenger footwell to ensure the cable is not visible)
6. At the handbrake switch, disconnect the plug and place the new “piggy back” connector labelled “hand brake” from the main navigation unit wiring loom onto the switch, the original lead then plugs back onto the new piggy back connector.
